Final: Jaguars 23, Colts 17. Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis. Sunday, December 28, 2025.
It took Jacksonville four quarters, a 53-yard field goal in the final minute, and an interception in the end zone on the last play to put away a Colts team that had already been eliminated from the playoffs. Trevor Lawrence ran for two short touchdowns, Cam Little made all three of his second-half field goals, and the Jaguars beat Indianapolis 23-17 at Lucas Oil Stadium on December 28, 2025, for their seventh straight win.
Lawrence completed 23 of 37 passes for 263 yards with one interception and added scoring runs of four and six yards. Travis Etienne carried 17 times for 76 yards and pushed past 1,000 for the season, and Parker Washington was the game’s leading receiver with 115 yards on eight catches. Philip Rivers, back under center at 44, threw for 147 yards and a touchdown to Mo Alie-Cox, while Jonathan Taylor ran for 70 yards and a score on 21 carries in a game Indianapolis finished with 204 total yards.

Turnovers and takeaways
Each team gave the ball away twice. Jacksonville lost a Jakobi Meyers fumble in the first quarter, recovered by Samson Ebukam, and Lawrence threw a goal-line interception to Germaine Pratt late in the first half. The Jaguars answered with two interceptions of their own: Jarrian Jones picked off Rivers in the fourth quarter to set up the go-ahead field goal, and Antonio Johnson caught Riley Leonard’s final throw in the end zone to end the game.

Advanced and situational numbers
Jacksonville moved the ball at 5.4 yards per play to Indianapolis’ 3.7 and won the explosive-play count by a wide margin. The Jaguars produced nine passing plays of 15 yards or more for 180 yards, against three for 50 by the Colts, and broke off five runs of at least 10 yards. By Pro Football Focus charting, Jacksonville allowed 22 total pressures and Indianapolis 12, with Lawrence holding the ball an average of 3.08 seconds to Rivers’ 2.22. PFF’s top initial grades went to Colts linebacker Germaine Pratt at 92.4 and tight end Will Mallory at 91.7 on 11 snaps, with Jaguars cornerback Montaric Brown at 88.2 and linebacker Devin Lloyd at 83.8.
Game information
The game kicked off at 1:00 p.m. local time at Lucas Oil Stadium with the retractable roof closed over a fieldturf surface. Attendance was 66,080, and the game ran 3 hours, 5 minutes. Brad Allen worked as referee. Jacksonville opened as a 5.5-point favorite with a total of 48.5, which finished under.
What the result meant
Jacksonville made it eight straight a week later, a 41-7 win over Tennessee that clinched the AFC South at 13-4, one year after the franchise went 4-13. The season ended in the wild-card round, a 27-24 home loss to Buffalo. Indianapolis went the other direction. The Colts were 8-2 in November and out of the playoff race before this game kicked off. The loss left Rivers winless in three games since coming out of a five-year retirement. Indianapolis started rookie Riley Leonard in the finale at Houston, lost again, and closed the year 8-9.
I've been arguing about sport since I was old enough to have a bad opinion about it. Growing up in Newcastle will do that to you. I started Match Player Stats in May 2026 because I was tired of reading match coverage that confused volume with depth. Good-looking articles that told you nothing you couldn't have worked out from the scoreline. I cover the NFL, NBA, MLB, cricket, and football on this site, and the only rule I've ever held to is a straightforward one: if the stats don't support what you're writing, you're writing the wrong thing. That's the whole editorial policy, really.
